What if I were to tell you about a product on the market that will save you money, time and aggravation? You’d want to know more about it, right? I would.

That product is Dryel At-Home Cleaner. “Dryel,” you may ask? “I’ve heard of it but never paid it much attention.” Well you should – and here’s why …

But before I get to that, let me tell you that I am honored to have been chosen as a Dryel Blog Ambassador. As such, I’ve been instructed by the people at Dryel to give you my honest, unbiased opinion about Dryel. Yes, I was sent complimentary product, as you would, of course, imagine. But, truthfully, I was anxious about using it. What if it didn’t do what it’s supposed to do? What if it shrunk my clothing? What if Dryel caused my extremely sensitive skin to itch and break out in bumps? I was nervous but, since I was chosen from I don’t know how many website owners and bloggers, I was going to take this seriously and give Dryel a good test and report honestly back to you. After all, I was chosen because of you. If I review a product that does nothing for me, I generally don’t write about it. I recognize that just because it didn’t work for me, it may work for you so I leave it to you to try it on your own. And, of course, I introduce many products to you that I don’t review. But, as a Dryel Blog Ambassador, I have to test and write about the product, like it or not. So, here goes …

Dryel
Look for Dryel with the snappy, new, red box that makes it a standout on retailer shelves nationwide.

Dryel At-Home Cleaner is a revolutionary and patented at-home cleaning process that uses the heat produced by your dryer to clean and deodorize your clothing, table linens, bed linens and children’s toys, among other household items. Dryel is safe for use on most dry clean only and special care garments and items and takes only about 15 minutes in the dryer to refresh your clothing. Need a deeper clean? Dryel can handle that in about half an hour in your dryer.

Dryel can save you money. Where I live, in the suburbs of a major northeastern city, the cost to dry clean a sweater is about $4.50. The Dryel starter kit costs $6.99 and cleans up to 10 garments! Dryel refill kits are $8.99 and clean up to 30 garments. Math is not my strong suit but even I know that’s a tremendous savings over the course of just a short period of time.

Another benefit of Dryel? It cleans without using harsh chemicals. I’m allergic to almost everything – fragrance, chemicals, many soaps – and was concerned about the reaction of my skin to Dryel. I need not have worried. There was no reaction, no itching, no bumps. Nope. The only thing Dryel left me with was freshly and inexpensively laundered clothing.

So, how does it work?

The Dryel At-Home Cleaner consists of a new and improved zippered and roomy laundry bag and an ULTRAcleaning™ cloth. You place the items you want to refresh into the bag, throw in the cloth, zip up the bag and throw it into the dryer. Easy enough. But what am I going to clean first? Several weeks ago I purchased a gorgeous, grey wool Eileen Fisher sweater. It cost me about $250. but it’s worth every penny. It’s cushy, soft and despite it’s being oversized it’s cut in such a way as to be flattering without looking sloppy. It can take me from a casual lunch to a dressier dinner party with just a change of shoes, jewelry and a smashing handbag and I’m counting on wearing it a lot this holiday season. Frankly, I’ve already worn it death. I wore it to a birthday celebration (ok, two of them). I wore it to Thanksgiving dinner and I wore it to lunch yesterday. Normally, I’d have taken it to the dry cleaners but I want to wear it to dinner  tonight and, as good as my dry cleaner is, his turnaround time isn’t that fast. Seemed like the perfect opportunity to test my Dryel At-Home Cleaner.

Dryel

As I placed my beautiful new sweater into the bag, I’m not going to lie, I had second thoughts. What if it shrunk? I also threw in a great black turtleneck tunic that I often layer under a shorter jacket or sweater. I wear it to death and hand wash it in a gentle detergent. Besides that, I added one of my husband’s favorite long sleeve tees to the bag. (Why should I be the only one involved in this grand experiment?) There was plenty of room for more but, as I said, I was wary. It was enough that I considered sacrificing two of my beloved tops to the cause.

The ULTRAcleaning cloth is moist and has a faint, gentle, clean fragrance. That’s good. I don’t like any fragrance to compete with the one I choose to spritz on. Still wary, I placed the cloth into the bag, zipped it up, threw the bag into the dryer and turned it on for half an hour. Oh yeah. I was going all in with this review. You may want to know how Dryel works to clean your clothes and not merely refresh them, so half an hour it was.

Dryel
Me, happy in my Dryel-cleaned black live-in-everyday-tunic.

And, hurray! The sweater and tunic fit after their turn in the dryer with Dryel. My beloved Eileen Fisher sweater looked as if it had just come from the dry cleaners. All that was missing was the hanger and the bag. That’s great because it is tapped to attend a number of holiday events and I won’t have to run to the dry cleaner after each one. My tunic, which after I hand wash it, I have to “block” a little to help it get back its shape, was as good as new. No blocking was necessary. As for my husband’s tee, it looked great and I slipped it back in his drawer before he even knew I’d used it to test Dryel.

The Verdict

Dryel At-Home Dry Cleaner works! I know that I can trust even my expensive Dry Clean Only clothes to it and I am looking forward to saving money.

The very next things I am going to clean are our pillows. Did you know that pillows are supposed to be cleaned every three or so months? How many of us actually do that? They get gross collecting bacteria, dead skin, dust, mold and other yuck. The second I post this, I’m off to Dryel my pillows. Yes, I’m using Dryel as a verb; it’s that good.

And, with the holidays coming up and tons of friends and family about to descend on my house, I’m envisioning the Dryel possibilities – tablecloths; cloth napkins; pillows my guests use because, you know, why not? Bring it. I’m ready.

This post was sponsored by Dryel At-Home Dry Cleaner for which I received product and compensation. However, this in no way affected my honest review.

4 Comments on Dryel: Dry Clean Your Clothes at Home for the Holidays and Beyond

  1. ohh- I remember when it first came out – loved the idea, but like you – too scared to try it for fear of shrinkage!

So now that you have been my “tester” I know I can trust it to dry clean my bag of “off to the cleaners clothes” O so can never find the time to go and refuse to use the service of they pick it up from my work place and more than 4 times the normal cost.

Also love the idea of the non-chemical scent! It was bothers me the chemical scent, so unpleasant.

  2. I loved the idea when Dryel first came out too – but was too scared to try it. I trusted my beautiful Eileen Fisher sweater to Dryel and it looks as good as new. I love this product. Think of how much money it’s going to save me. And the time! With the weather we’re having today, a trip to the dry cleaner is out of the question. But my trusty dryer and Dryel will take care of my cleaning needs. As for the scent – I know! I love scent, but my own! I don’t want my hair products or face lotions, let alone my clothing, competing with my fragrance. Thanks for your comment. xo, Melody

  3. You can be sure that Dryel will be tops on my shopping list. Can’t wait to try it! I also have sensitive skin and am always wary about the products I use. Your excellent and very interesting article has convinced me about the merits of Dryel. It will definitely cut down on my trips to the dry cleaner and that’s a big plus, especially in this iffy winter weather. Thank you!

  4. Thanks for your comment! As I look around my house, I’m seeing all kinds of things I can use it on. After the pillows, the tablecloth that I used for Thanksgiving – and that is in a bag in my front hall closet to be taken to the dry cleaner – is next! Bring on holiday entertaining. I am ready! xo, Melody
