IMPROVED SKIN WITH CLAYSPRAY

Christmas is over and lots of parties, too many carbs, too much, ahem, egg nog and too many late nights have left my skin dull and tired looking. But, with a week to go before New Year’s Eve, post-holiday parties and some more wine and winter in my immediate future, my skin needs some serious help. And I want an alternative to piling on foundation, concealer and blush. That’s where Clayspray® comes in. Clayspray is, well, what its name says – clay in a spray. (It actually comes out of the bottle with a pump or two and is more of a thick cream than a liquid-y spray.) The company was founded by – get this – an archeologist. Clayspray is sourced from the Irene Mine in Spain’s Iberian Peninsula, a site that’s historically renowned for its clay’s therapeutic properties and where the clay has been protected from pollution and contamination for thousands of years.  The clay has been specially formulated to preserve its purity and presented in a pump bottle to make it user-friendly. The total concentration of actual clay in the product is 65% (compared to 20% which is found in a majority of other clay mask products).

A bit of history … clay has been used as a beauty and medicinal product for thousands of years. Historians  believe that our prehistoric ancestors used clay medicinally to heal skin wounds and it’s been reported that Cleopatra used clay as a face mask to preserve her complexion.

Like Cleopatra, I love face masks – but not all of them are created equal. Some are vastly better than others; Clayspray is at the top of my list. Clayspray comes in five formulations: Mattifying Red Clay Masque to regulate oil secretions and combat blemishes; Glow Red Clay with Cacao Masque to nourish skin with cacao antioxidants; Pore Refining White Clay Mask to exfoliate and refine pores; Toning White Clay with Aloe Vera to smooth, soften and unify skin tone and Brightening White Clay with Ginseng Masque to remove dead skin cells and reveal brighter, replenished skin. The company also has a line of mineral water misting sprays that consists of H2O Spray Hydrate Natural Spring Water and H2O Spray Comfort with Green Tea Mineral Water. These can be used alone to hydrate and soothe skin or before applying Clayspray to prepare the skin. What a luxurious duo – and not to worry, environmentalists – the exceptionally pure water is extracted by non-invasive methods. (The company was founded by an archeologist, after all.)

I was sent a complimentary sample of Brightening White Clay with Ginseng Masque along with H2O Spray Hydrate – and the timing couldn’t be better. (I’m counting down the days to New Year’s Eve.) What a luxurious duo! I couldn’t wait to give these products a try and, since a picture is worth a thousand words – even if that picture is of me sans foundation and blush – I wanted to document my Clayspray experience in photos. So, here you go. First up, me before Clayspray and minus face makeup. (You can see that my eyes are done and I’m wearing a bit of gloss on my lips.)

Next up: I used Hydrate Natural Spring Water Spray to prepare my skin for the masque and then applied Clayspray. As I said, it’s actually more of a thick cream when it comes out of the bottle. You spray some into your hand, spread it on your face, minus the eye area and then allow it to dry. Clayspray dried quickly without the tightness or pulling that some face masks make you feel. To remove Clayspray, I used a washcloth and some warm water. It came off quickly and easily unlike some other clay masks that are difficult to remove and require lots of rubbing with warm water.

And here, my naked skin after Clayspray. What do you think? My skin feels soft and smooth. It’s no longer dull or tired looking. I think it looks pretty great and I haven’t yet finished up with a quick mist of Hydrate.

Clayspray is a bit pricey at $59.95 but for that you get 4+ fluid oz. of this magical stuff. The mineral water spray is $23.95. It’s less costly than a facial, for sure, and, in my opinion, it accomplishes much the same thing.
