If anyone has ever doubted the genius that is Karl Lagerfeld, the latest Chanel collection should dispel those thoughts. As always, Herr Lagerfeld stays true to the Chanel aesthetic but takes it to new heights with a color palette of blush pink, grey, black and cream; silhouettes that flatter women of all ages; just the right touches of glitter and sparkle and fabrics that look like they were divinely created. I imagine the Kaiser spinning fabric from pink clouds at sunset, weaving it into heavenly shapes and, for the final touch, adorning it with stars. While there are some weak links in the collection – a sparkly bright pink and blue jumpsuit that looked jarringly out of place in Lagerfeld’s otherwise calm and elegant palette; a navel-baring midriff top (which, a bit longer, would be incredible) – it is one of Lagerfeld’s strongest collections. His coats – oh his coats … While some past collections scream “Chanel,” the coats in this collection whisper “I’m Chanel, of course” in their pink and grey tweed shot with silver.
In recent seasons, Lagerfeld celebrated youth. Fall/Winter 2012/13 celebrates women. Lagerfeld ‘s theme for this collection is New Vintage. Silhouettes harken back to the 40s with swing coats, strong shoulders and bow blouses, but there is nothing rehashed or old fashioned. In fact, most of the clothing in the collection could be worn by women of any age, provided that they could afford them, of course. The hours of handwork and attention to detail are evident in every design.
Sparkling hose, silver toe-capped shoes, tweed clutches and snoods shot with shimmery beads adorned the collection that, in this writer’s opinion, is one of Lagerfeld’s best ever.

Chanel Fall/Winter 2012/2013 Haute Couture Collection
Ahh fall and winter clothes! 🙂 Love the color pallet and the glittery hats and stockings. Not so sure about some of his more futuristic choices (i.e. the jumpsuit and the dress with pom poms on it) but overall a beautiful collection! “…the coats in this collection whisper “I’m Chanel, of course”…” – I couldn’t agree more!
I love fall clothing too. Always have and I always look forward to a new color palette and silhouette. Chanel’s color palette – pink and grey – is one of my favorites. Plus I love all the glitter and shimmer and shine. I wish I could afford one of those magnificent coats! I’d never take it off. So divine! xo, Melody
