My reflections on an important anniversary in my life in lieu of The Question of the Week which will return next week …

QVC Ad in Vogue Magazine

A year ago today, Rocio Rivera, Christine Kennedy and Mary Martha Douglas, three amazing, accomplished, brilliant and beautiful women, and I,  stood on the set of a Vogue photo shoot with Dennis Basso, Josie Maran, Shoshanna, Suze Orman and Lisa Robertson of QVC as photographer Art Streiber trained his lens on us to get the perfect shot that was to appear in the April 2011 issue of Vogue Magazine.

I chronicled my journey from start to finish in several posts last year and reprint the links here if you’d like to read them.

Me Being Me

Those of who have read them or know me personally, know that I was an utter wreck at the thought of having my photo taken. As a tiny little girl I was horribly camera shy – and I remain so to this day. (You should check out some of my school class photos for very obvious proof of this. Or rather, don’t, please.)

So why did I submit my photo when I received an email from Vogue Insiders asking for people to appear in the ad? I thought it would be something great to write about for EverBeautiful.com. Little did I know that I would actually be chosen. Little did I know that facing my fears and overcoming them would have such a profound effect on every day that followed. Little did I know that I would meet some of the most wonderful, supportive, positive and amazing people I’ve ever met in my entire life.

Thank you QVC and especially Joanne Lockard, Jamie Falkowski, Emily Del Vecchio, Amy McManus, Mike Zolomij, Beverly Brettman, Anthony Tamburinno and Howard Schiller who made each of us feel special and beautiful and who treated us like royalty. Thank you for your continued friendship. Thank you Josie, Shoshanna and Suze for making us feel comfortable on the set and for your kindness and the fun we had off the set. Thank you Lisa. Just watching you work is inspiring. That, in combination with your kindness won each of us over. Thank you Dennis. Your elegance, professionalism, friendship and sense of humor made standing in front of the camera for hours the most fun I’ve ever had.

And thank you Rocio, Christine and Mary Martha. You are my sisters. My very much younger sisters, but still …  I love you and know that we have many great adventures ahead. I look forward to all of them, with you firmly by my side.
