Château Rauzan-Segla 2009 with Karl Lagerfeld-painted label

I love Chanel for its iconic quilted handbags, knit suits and haute couture. While the House’s creative director and head designer, Karl Lagerfeld, remains true to the image created by Coco Chanel, he also imbues his unique aesthetic on every piece he sends down the Paris runways. Oh, Herr Lagerfeld, I salute your myriad talents. You’re a fashion force, a celebrated photographer and artist and I raise my glass of Chanel wine to you.

Yup, you heard me correctly. Betcha didn’t know that Chanel owns a celebrated winery. (I didn’t, until this morning.)

Founded in 1661 by Pierre de Rauzan, Château Rauzan-Ségla, situated in the heart of the Margaux appellation, was acquired by Chanel in 1994. To celebrate its 350th anniversary and the launch of its new 2009 vintage Grand Cru Classe,  Château Rauzan-Ségla announces a very special – one time only – collaboration with Herr Lagerfeld. To honor these two milestones, the Kaiser has brought his iconic drawing style to the label with a rendering of the Château Rauzan-Ségla.

This Grand Cru Classe will be available in March at fine wine purveyors nationwide for $129. per bottle. (I’d be willing to bet that the bottles will sell out quickly. Who doesn’t want a piece of Karl?)

Happily, the wine is now available for pre-order. Check with your favorite wine shop and, if you’re lucky enough to snag a bottle, please raise your glass to Karl for me.  (And, of course it goes without saying, save the label!)

Cheers!
