Dove LogoDove was one of the first national brands to promote women’s self-esteem when they launched their Dove Campaign for Real Beauty in 2004. In an effort to celebrate the physical differences of all women, including the majority who do not fit into a traditional image of beauty, Dove’s ad campaign featured women of all shapes, sizes, colors and ages.

Now they are about to embark on their 2011 Dove Movement for Self-Esteem.

The Dove Movement for Self-Esteem, which takes place October 21st – 23rd, is a wonderful way to help women recognize their individual beauty and pass the information down the line to the next generation. Dove encourages you to join the movement and pledge to spend an hour during the Weekend on a self-esteem building activity with a girl in your life.

According to Dove global research, only 4% of women around the world consider themselves beautiful – up from 2% in 2004 – and Dove is working hard to continue moving that needle in a positive direction through the Dove Movement for Self-Esteem.

Among some tips you’ll find:

A Girl’s Guide to the Digital World (Ages 10 & Up)

Walk your child through the ways she can work to develop a healthy attitude towards networking with friends and peers online. This section includes useful tips from Dove Ambassador Jess Weiner.

New Moves & Grooves (All Ages)

Choose a new activity, or pick one you both love. Anything from hula hooping to rock climbing, dancing, bowling, roller-skating, hiking, swimming and more can be healthy for your body, mind and relationship.

Girls in the Lead (Ages 10 & Up)

Let the girl in your life teach you a new skill. Try doing a project together like jewelry making or pottery, or ask her to show you how to do something you normally wouldn’t, like play video games or learn to text.

Thankful for Beauty All Around You (All Ages)

Using a camera, video recorder or both, take an expedition and capture all of the beautiful things you’re thankful for in people, places, nature, anything. Then, create a slideshow or movie for a feel-good film you can pop in whenever she needs a little boost.
