Are you having enough sex? Are you having any sex? Are you doing it right? And, uh, does size really count?

The New Naked by Harry Fisch, M.D.
My complimentary review copy and yes, I bookmarked passages!

Urologist, radio host and renowned sexpert Harry Fisch, MD, FACS, answers these questions and more in his book, The New Naked, The Ultimate Sex Education for Grown-Ups.

A DOCTOR OFFERS TIPS FOR BETTER SEX

I’m not certain that The New Naked is the ultimate sex education guide for grownups – it doesn’t really address homosexual relationships or those in which couples might veer from mainstream vanilla – but it does offer insights into improving your sex life through better communication and understanding. The book is liberally sprinkled with facts and statistics and there’s some great information on how weight and fitness play a role in sexual satisfaction. (I’ve not seen this discussed before and hadn’t realized that obesity affects sexuality. It makes complete sense, of course, since obesity is a metabolic disorder that affects hormones which affect sexuality. Dr. Fisch writes about how testosterone levels are affected by diet and fitness and gives his advice on how to combat obesity. And, no, those low-T meds you see advertised on TV ad nauseum are not necessarily the answer.)

Dr. Fisch has an easy style of writing and although he approaches the issue of heterosexuality from an understandably male perspective – he is, after all, a men’s sexual health expert – he often reminds the reader that The New Naked is written for the woman in a couples’ relationship. He writes, “This is a comprehensive book – written about men but for women – showing how easily you can achieve the sexually satisfying adult relationships you’ve always wanted.” I must confess that initially I found this slightly off-putting but the book is so full of information, my objection quickly dissipated. Frankly, Dr. Fisch had me when he wrote that foreplay begins long before the sexual act  itself and that men should learn to tease and please their women with flirtation and romance.

Other areas of sexuality that Dr. Fisch covers include: penis size (nope, I’m not going to tell you what’s “normal.” You’re going to have to read the book.); pornography; sex addiction; sex among older people (yup, sex doesn’t have to wane as we age although statistically, older people have less – but no less satisfying – sexual encounters than their younger counterparts); communication; cheating and masturbation.

In The New Naked, Dr. Fisch also offers quizzes, factoids (as well as hard-core facts) and excerpts from conversations with some of his patients. All in all, The New Naked will serve as a text cum workbook to help you have a more satisfying sexual relationship.
