LOSE THE BLOAT!

Lose Holiday Bloat

The Big Meal is over. You consumed more calories last night than you have in more than an entire week. Your energy levels are sapped and, as you lie on the couch contemplating the myriad number of ways you’re going to prepare the leftover turkey, you thank your employer for giving you today off. It’s time to get up, get dressed and face the day. But, uh oh, you can’t zip your pants.

Oh yeah. We’ve all been there. You vow to eat more healthy each year the holiday rolls around but the food is so tempting, the company is so much fun and, hey, it’s Thanksgiving! You’ll eat healthy on Friday.

Peak Performance trainer Jessi Kneeland feels your pain and shares her 6 tips to Lose Bloat After Thanksgiving to ensure that the pain is fleeting and you don’t beat yourself up too badly for allowing yourself to get out of control on this annual feast day.

Here ya go …

Jessi Kneeland’s Six Tips to Lose Bloat After Thanksgiving

1. Drink Lots of Water. After consuming a rich, salty meal, your body will retain fluid in an effort to keep you hydrated. Drinking water will tell your body it can let go of those fluids. You’ll start to see and feel yourself de-bloating in a day or so.

2.  Lower Your Sodium Intake for a Few Days. Keep your sodium intake low for at least a week after Thanksgiving to give yourself a chance to properly re-hydrate and lose bloat.

3. Go for a Walk After Dinner. Get your body moving as soon as you can. This will help your digestion along and fight constipation. If you have a gym membership, try to get to the gym on Friday. The sooner you start the process of sweating and exercising, the better.

4. Get Plenty of Fiber. The longer the food sits in your digestive system, the longer you’ll feel bloated. I suggest taking a daily fiber supplement, but, if you don’t, make sure to get plenty of fiber-rich vegetables and fruits over the next several days.

5. Fast. The morning after Thanksgiving, consider stretching your overnight fast into the afternoon. You can drink some coffee with cream in the morning, but avoid food until early or mid-afternoon. This will give your body a chance to run on last night’s fuel (and fat) and will give your digestive system a much-needed break.

6. Eat  Water-Rich Fruits and Veggies. This will help to re-hydrate your body – though there is no substitute for water! Many fibrous greens, including broccoli, kale and spinach will offer the added bonus of magnesium, potassium and calcium – all of which will help ease water retention.
