Denim Days

I’m in love with denim. It’s casual, comfortable, appropriate for any age and can be quite chic. Plus, it’s a hot spring trend.

Of course, denim jeans, from boot cut to wide leg to skinnies, are a staple of most women’s wardrobes. And since this season is all about layering denim, pair them with a chambray shirt or denim jacket. (Try this Chambray Chic Top from Avon, $24.99.) Tie a scarf around your neck and you’ve got a cool weekend outfit that can be dressed up or down, depending on the shoes you choose.

The colored denim trend continues and the hues are limitless. But, while red denim jeans were on everyone’s hips last spring, pastels are a huge colored denim trend this season. Light colored denim can be less forgiving than darker hues but, even the curviest denim lover can find a pair of pastel jeans that flatter. Hint: If you want to minimize your curves, look for jeans that sit at the natural waist or a bit lower and choose ones with larger pockets. Also, try a boot cut leg to flatter your proportions. To accentuate or create curves, choose a pair of high-waisted jeans with smaller back pockets or ones that have decorated pockets. Skinny jeans that hug the ankles will flatter your figure. I’m loving colored denim right now and since I didn’t grab a pair last spring, they’re on my must have list this season.

Denim is showing up not only in jeans, jackets and shirts. Look for it in dresses that you can wear to the boardroom, the ballroom or a ballgame.
