Boston Body Barre Sculpt Express

I recently received a review copy of Pilates expert Zayna Gold’s new fitness DVD, Boston Body Barre Sculpt Express and I love it. The workout is challenging, for sure, but the time flies when I’m doing it and Gold’s devilish sense of humor and constant acknowledgement of just how rewarding the results will be keep me motivated to accomplish every move correctly and to finish the workout. Boston Body Barre Sculpt Express consists of two separate programs. The full body program employs a combination of Pilates, ballet and cardio exercises, is 50 minutes long and consists of small, concentrated movements that work every muscle in your body. The second program is a ten-minute Butt Blaster workout. Both programs have me sweating and shaking every time I do them. I like that, by the way. I don’t want an exercise program that doesn’t challenge me. But I don’t want one that is so challenging I become frustrated and give up on the program. Gold’s Boston Body Barre Sculpt Express is challenging enough so that I know I’m getting a good workout – and it’s fun.

Not knowing what to expect the very first time I did Gold’s full body workout, I actually said out loud, “How is it possible that I’m working up a sweat doing such small moves?” Gold answered that question several times during the workout when she acknowledged its difficulty. The program doesn’t get easier, but it does get more effective, she said with a sinister chuckle as she put a student through her paces. (On the DVD, Gold works with several lithe and lean students, at least one of whom is a dancer.) Gold constantly acknowledges your temporary pain and eggs you on to complete the program. She’s sort of a cross between a dominatrix and a caregiver and the combination works. It’s a refreshing change to have an exercise instructor know your limitations and help push you past them. Gold is no wimp. She gets you to work – and you don’t mind it one bit.

The second time I did the workout, I invited a couple of friends over to do it with me. Despite our varying fitness levels, we all completed the workout and everyone agreed that, while it was a challenge, it was fun and definitely worth it. One of my friends, who has a personal Pilates trainer, said Gold’s Boston Body Barre Sculpt Express gave her a better workout than her own trainer did. No one complained of pain the following day and everyone asked when we could it again. Everyone loved Gold and, while we did the DVD, we all talked to her as if she was with us in my basement.

I love this DVD and will definitely check out Zayna Gold’s other workout DVDs as well. You can too. Here’s the link to her site: http://www.bostonbody.com/
