Tracey Mallett's FuseDance Cardio Melt

I recently received a complimentary copy of Tracey Mallett’s FuseDance Cardio Melt DVD to review and – spoiler alert – it is so much fun, I recommend it for beginners and more advanced fitness enthusiasts alike. Having said that, feel free to read my review. Or, if you want to purchase a copy for yourself based on my opening sentence alone, click the link.

In case you’re unfamiliar with Tracey Mallett, she is a fitness expert, a dancer, choreographer and creator of several best selling DVDs including The Booty Barre method, for which she’s achieved popular acclaim. She is also the owner of ATP Specific Training, a Pilates studio in Los Angeles. Her fitness articles have appeared in Prevention, Fitness and Shape Magazines, to name just a few. She is the “go-to” fitness guru for many television shows and recently appeared on The Ellen Show with Michelle Obama as part of the “Let’s Move” campaign to help motivate kids to become active in order to combat childhood obesity.

Trust me, she will get you to move your buns.

FuseDance Cardio Melt is a two DVD set. Both exercise programs are based on easy-to-do dance and exercise moves and run about 30 minutes long. Workout One will have you shaking your hips as you follow Mallett through a series of circuits that combine salsa, ballet and dance club moves. Mallett breaks it down for you as she instructs, shows and motivates you through each set of moves. I am directionally challenged and more than sometimes have difficulty following certain exercise DVDs. This was not the case with Mallett’s incredibly fun and easy-to-follow program. It had me booty slapping, chest popping, heel tapping, plie pulsing and salsa-ing all over my family room. If anyone was looking in my windows, they’d have also seen me smiling and laughing while doing this. In my opinion, the hallmark of a successful exercise DVD, is wanting to do it again and again. I have not returned Mallett’s DVD to its case. It is in my DVR where it’s lived since I first popped it in and did the program.

The second DVD in Mallett’s FuseDance Cardio Melt program utilizes light weights and combines floor and standing exercises for a full body toning and firming workout. I can’t decide which one I like best and, more often than not, do both of them in succession.

I cannot put my finger on what “magic” it is that Mallett exudes to get you to want to exercise to her DVDs but, whatever it is, she works it and it works. With her adorable personality and great accent, Mallett knows how to motivate.

De rigueur disclaimer: Please see your doctor before starting this or any exercise program to ensure that you are fit to exercise.

And, a little motivation from me, never become discouraged if you can’t keep up initially or complete an entire DVD. Exercise builds on itself and, with time, you’ll grow stronger and will become familiar with the moves. If you need to rest, take a few minutes and then resume when you feel you’re ready.  Enjoy the process and the movement.
