Winter weather wreaks havoc on our skin. Whipping wind and freezing temperatures chap and irritate, to say nothing of the damage done by drying indoor heating.  Some suggestions to safeguard skin from the ravages of winter?  Turn down the heat on your shower. Hot water depletes much-needed moisture from skin.  Consider using a humidifier in your house or office to replace some of the moisture lost to indoor heating.  A humidifier in your bedroom will add moisture to the air which may also help you sleep better and prevent you from waking up with a dry throat and nose.  And, of course, moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Here, some more tips for healthy winter skin.

Infectiguard Hand Sanitizer with Moisturizer

While we know to slather our faces and bodies with moisturizers and protective lotions, how many of us think about our hands?  Infectiguard from Dr. Fresh is a hand sanitizer that does double duty since it’s also a lotion full of skin hydrating ingredients like aloe and vitamin E.  It goes on soft and smooth, and leaves your hands protected yet soothed. It has enough alcohol to kill disease-causing germs as mandated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but none of the sting or medicinal smell of traditional gel sanitizers. In fact, its silky texture belies its bacteria-fighting power. Buy it online at Amazon.com and Drugstore.com and at many retailers across the country including Duane Reade, Kmart, Kroger and Publix. Suggested retail price, $2.99 for 8 oz.

  1. I use a humidifier every night for me and my daughter, and you are absolutely right!
It works, and I had no clue you could or even had too condition your eye lashes!
    Learn something new every day!

Baths are so relaxing, I may need to try the Epicuren.

  2. I’ve been conditioning my lashes for years. I found that it helps them grow longer too. I used to pile on the mascara until it looked like dead bugs were attached to my eyes (not really, but I used a LOT) – and now, I’m good with one coat. Thanks, Tymbre, for reading and commenting!
